Data Consortia
Data Consortia answer complex scientific questions by bringing together data from multiple stakeholders.
Results from a number of small studies have suggested that blood-based assessment of DNA structure of tumours (ctDNA) could predict clinical outcomes in patients. To evaluate whether this this hypothesis holds true across larger harmonized data sets, Névine worked with the non-profit Friends of Cancer Research to create a programme bringing together multiple data sets from pharmaceutical companies and Diagnostic vendors.
FOCR, NMD Group LLC, Cancer Research and Biostatistics worked with industry collaborators and FDA to gather and harmonise the available data and generate initial findings. We are now expanding our work to other retrospective cohorts and in prospective data collection. The most up to date information on the project can be found here: ctDNA
The NMD Group worked with FOCR to determine the options for data sharing, gain agreement from contributors for the most informative data sharing option, establish trust with all contributors with an open programme structure they have full participation in. In addition, because there was complex individual patient-level data, NMD Group ran a selection process to determine the best choice for an independent analysis center. The cycle time from kick-off meeting to preliminary results has been just over 3 months, an incredibly fast turnaround. More results are expected in 2021.
NMD Group is under contract with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to support the launch and full-scale implementation of the International COVID-19 Data Alliance (ICODA)
The mission of the Alliance is to unite data from from international clinical trials, biomedical and health research (i.e. RWE/RWD) to enable discoveries that benefit all people, everywhere, by reducing the harm of the COVID-19 pandemic – and of future pandemics. Névine is a member of the Executive Leadership Team, led the creation of the Statistical Expert Group which is instituting standards for reliable and high quality research. She also contributed to the creation of the Scientific Advisory Committee and is leading the first research project through the Workbench. The latter has been enabled by the Pharmaceutical R&D Alliance who as a group have committed harmonized summary-level data from their randomized controlled trials of treatment of COVID19.
